Happy New Year! what a year! 2016 was great where we honoured our unsung heroes within Bedford. We concluded the year by honouring one of Bedford's heroin Neslyn Pearson which was well overdue. Neslyn was nominated by quite a number of people this made it extra special and we decided to present the Community Award at the annual Christmas extravaganza hosted by Music 4 memory and friends on the 17th December at All Saints Church in Queens Park. The event was so spectacular that the word from the street is that it was the best yet children, adults and Santa got on their feet to waltz to carols like silent night and white Christmas. Neslyn was presented with the Bedfordshire Community Award by Richard Fuller MP after Caitlin Millar a member of Fusion youth singing & band shared with the audience why she felt Neslyn deserved the Award. Caitlin said that Neslyn is always there to help them, encourage them and is approachable. Roy Lambert who is a church Warden at All Saints church and Wendy Bedeau who is a level 2 cricket coach and a volunteer with the Queens Park cricket club jointly sent their comments about Neslyn's involvement in the community. "Neslyn is involved in all multi-faith projects (cricket, basketball, fusion, faith tours and Queens Park Lives, Queens Park Community Orchard) under the banner of All Saints Church in Queens Park. She's also a church warden and was recently made an Honary Canon of St Albans. Neslyn is dependable, efficient person who will give as much details to a person as well as a project no matter what the obstacles might be in her way." Sarah Russell the CEO of Tibbs dementia also said, "Neslyn is strong, loyal and committed to building a truly inclusive and enabling community, where all are valued, nurtured and validated. Neslyn has devoted many years to her work for Faith in Queen's Park breaking down barriers and building friendships and understanding. Her work with Fusion has inspired a generation of young people to believe, to confidently go out into the world embracing challenge, standing up for equality and justice and taking with them a deep sense of community and belonging, nurtured through their involvement with Fusion/ basketball/ cricket. Neslyn is a trustee of Tibbs Dementia Foundation and brings a professional yet human touch, always encouraging and interested she offers wisdom, stability whilst inspiring, believing and supporting new ideas and developments." This year we are looking for unsung heroes like Neslyn who you believe that they truly make Bedfordshire better nominate them and tell us why you think they deserve the Bedfordshire Community Awards which will be presented mid year. www.allsaintsbedford.co.uk/ www.faithinqueenspark.org.uk/basketball/index.php www.faithinqueenspark.org.uk/cricket/index.php www.faithinqueenspark.org.uk/fusion/ www.tibbsdementia.co.uk/
