In 2014, June Kuria and a few friends noticed that there were many people selflessly working in their community, unrecognised and not expecting thanks.
You probably know someone like this - someone who goes that extra mile as part of a thankless 9-5 job, or who voluntarily gives up their free time to do something for individuals or your community.
“Bedfordshire Community Awards” was started as a means of saying a big public ‘Thank you!' to such people.
We invite you, your community or group, to nominate anyone that you consider deserves public recognition for their efforts.
Examples of Communities and Groups that have, thus far, become involved: Music 4 Memory; Queen's Park Community Orchard; Friends for Life; Biddenham Handbell Ringers; Queen's park Women's Group and; local Health organisations, such as GP surgeries and health fitness groups.
At the moment, our awards are presented as part of other local events but we hope that this initiative will grow so that, eventually, we will be able to host our own ceremonies.
How to nominate someone. Discuss with your group or community any potential nominees. Then write us a short email,[email protected] describing why you would like to thank that person (or persons) with a “Bedfordshire Community Award”.
